Reading with Marta has helped make a huge improvement in my Portuguese. The time I spend reading out loud is great speaking practice. When I’m having a conversation now in Portuguese, I’m more confident and my words come much more easily. My vocabulary has increased significantly, with words I’m able to use because I see them over and over in the reading. Grammar lessons provide a good foundation, but I feel like the reading brings it all together and has significantly advanced my ability to speak and understand Portuguese.

Daniela has been my professor in Brazilian Portuguese (and culture) for almost 10 years. I began my study as preparation for an upcoming trip to Brazil. Four trips later, I am still deepening my understanding of the language and culture with Daniella’s skillful guidance. Whether the lesson is an exercise in grammar, or a discussion about an article or current events, Daniella always brings fresh material that is interesting and relevant for my level. Over these years, Daniella and I rimos e choramos juntos (em português!), e passamos a nos considerar amigos. Para mim, aprender um idioma tem tanto a ver com conexão humana quanto com gramática e vocabulário. É fácil se conectar com Daniella, além de ser uma professora talentosa e experiente. Sempre espero ansiosamente pelo nosso tempo juntos.

“Uiara é uma ótima professora”

Uiara is a great teacher! The atmosphere in her classes is always light and relaxed. She designs her classes in a way that gives plenty of space to the individual desires and needs of her students, while at the same time providing a structure that facilitates learning, using materials from textbooks, materials that she creates herself, and examples from the internet. I learned a lot in Uiara’s classes and I can recommend her with confidence!

Oi Daniela,  I will write in English because I really want to write properly how I feel.  Guess what?  I passed my test today!  I want to thank you so much for everything you have done for me.  You were my instructor from the beginning and you were always there when I needed you.  I really don’t know how to thank you for this gift.  You always gave me encouragement and believed in me, when sometimes I didn’t believe I could do it.  This really changes my life in so many good ways and I could not have accomplished this without you.  Your are a great teacher and now a great friend that I hope to have for many years to come.   I hope we can get together periodically in the future.  I would love for you and Marta to come visit us in our home.  You are always welcome here.  I hope in the future, I can do something as great as you have done for me.

I really enjoyed Professor Uiara‘s Portuguese classes. The classes were very dynamic and fun. I learned grammar and typical expressions from the country and Brazilian culture. She was always respectful and patient. She encouraged me to speak more and feel more confident.

I have wanted to learn Portuguese all my life. Luckily, during Covid, I started Portuguese classes with Daniela. It was a profound moment for me. Daniela is an amazing teacher. I have been with her for 3 years and more. I learned how to speak like a Brazilian, the grammar stuff, and she helped me get important documents for my family. Daniela is the best teacher!
