I learned Portuguese with Professora Adriana both in person and online. I came to know Adriana as an exceptional teacher—extremely competent and very perceptive about the learners’ abilities.

She is both patient and demanding, responds to the students’ needs, and adjusts the material accordingly. I can feel that Professora Adriana teaches with heart and truly cares about her students.

Daniela has been my professor in Brazilian Portuguese (and culture) for almost 10 years. I began my study as preparation for an upcoming trip to Brazil. Four trips later, I am still deepening my understanding of the language and culture with Daniella’s skillful guidance. Whether the lesson is an exercise in grammar, or a discussion about an article or current events, Daniella always brings fresh material that is interesting and relevant for my level. Over these years, Daniella and I Wir haben zusammen gelacht und geweint (auf Portugiesisch!) und betrachten uns mittlerweile als Freunde. Für mich geht es beim Sprachenlernen genauso um zwischenmenschliche Kontakte wie um Grammatik und Vokabeln. Mit Daniella kommt man leicht in Kontakt und ist gleichzeitig eine begabte und kompetente Lehrerin. Ich freue mich immer auf unsere gemeinsame Zeit.

Mit diesem Brief möchte ich dir sagen, wie besonders du im zweiten Jahr für mich warst, und auch, um dir dafür zu danken, dass du mich immer geärgert, versucht hast, im Unterricht immer mein Bestes zu geben und mich gescholten hast, weil ich mein Handy hatte.

Ich möchte Sie auch daran erinnern, dass Sie mir Ihr Kalligrafieheft bis heute nicht geliehen haben. Spaß beiseite, Herr Lehrer, ich danke Ihnen für alles. Ich habe Sie in der 3. Klasse vermisst. Alles Gute, immer.

Oi Daniela,  I will write in English because I really want to write properly how I feel.  Guess what?  I passed my test today!  I want to thank you so much for everything you have done for me.  You were my instructor from the beginning and you were always there when I needed you.  I really don’t know how to thank you for this gift.  You always gave me encouragement and believed in me, when sometimes I didn’t believe I could do it.  This really changes my life in so many good ways and I could not have accomplished this without you.  Your are a great teacher and now a great friend that I hope to have for many years to come.   I hope we can get together periodically in the future.  I would love for you and Marta to come visit us in our home.  You are always welcome here.  I hope in the future, I can do something as great as you have done for me.
